Happy New Year!!!

But why does everyone say that? I don't get it.

People celebrate new years as if life has started over--as if people are going to actually change. Every New Year people create resolutions that they never keep. Every year people vow to be nicer to others, or to do all their work, not to misbehave, to quit smoking, to do this, to do that, but how many people actually stick to it?

New Year's is not a new beginning, it just the next step in our calendar system. No one actually becomes a new person. Nothing different has happened. Nothing is going to magically change now that the clock reads "2006" instead of "2005." Life will carry on as it did in 2005 without interruption, just like 2004 carried on into 2005 without interruption, as did the previous years before that.

But, being polite is something one should do anyways, and always. So for now, I'll put on a smile and yell Happy New Year to all, but underneath, I just know 2006 is going to suck, as 2005 did.
